Students Bowled Over

January 15, 2020 by Bill Williams

Not content with developing their road-rage the group wanted to show off its tact and guile by seeing how far down a bowling lane they could land a ball………needless to say experience won out:-)

PhDs On Track

October 18, 2019 by Bill Williams

The group threw down the gauntlet this Thursday at Palmerston North’s International Daytona raceway….and initially it was
picked up by Left to Right: Vincent (working with Catherine Whitby), Ben, Sahsi-“CaptainCrash”, Susav, Bill, Jim (the Ringer), and Josiah.

For now the standings are below, but it should be noted these are not corrected or age or infirmity, entertainment value, or out and out dirty tactics (you know who you are):

ASAXS !

September 29, 2016 by Bill Williams

Bill, Brad and Jess got to the Synchrotron in Aussie earlier in the year and with Duncan McGillivray (Left) from the University of Auckland, and Tim Ryan and Nigel Kirby from the SAXS beam line team, did some anomalous scattering measurements in an attempt to measure the ion-distribution around polyelectrolytes of varying charge density. Really promising results using Rubidium as a monovalent sodium-substitute with absorbance within the available energy range…..On the back of this we have more beamtime at the end of the year:-)

PGP Workshop

The PGP Workshop went well, with Rob and Sapna’s project getting positive reviews 😉 not to mention the sheep-herding and axe-throwing activities at Makoura lodge and the intense after-dinner which-biopolymer-is-best debate. “Alginate???…Are you taking the piss?”
