ASAXS !

September 29, 2016 by Bill Williams

Bill, Brad and Jess got to the Synchrotron in Aussie earlier in the year and with Duncan McGillivray (Left) from the University of Auckland, and Tim Ryan and Nigel Kirby from the SAXS beam line team, did some anomalous scattering measurements in an attempt to measure the ion-distribution around polyelectrolytes of varying charge density. Really promising results using Rubidium as a monovalent sodium-substitute with absorbance within the available energy range…..On the back of this we have more beamtime at the end of the year:-)

Pacifichem Pectin Fest!

It was awesome to catch up with the World-Self-Help-Pectin-Addiction-Group at Pacifichem,… do I need to say with two days solid of pectin talks that I loved it??? Jess did a great job of presenting her PME-HG simulations, and was great to hear the latest from our pectin BFFs ….sweet 😉

Bill, sample preparation @ CSIRO~ more update soon!

Back at the Lake:-)

Earlier in the year group members enjoyed a few days back at Lake Rotoiti courtesy of Brad’s folks:-) Priceless. Here is Mariela learning to fish, and Bill……dreaming of a pectin-based society!

VC Doctoral Scholarship for Jessie

A belated (not like me, Im normally so prompt 😉 ) well done to Jessie for the award of a Vice Chancellors Massey Doctoral Scholarship. I have been trying to reign her in, but it looks like she is determined to study pectin. Pity eh?

PhDs On Track

The group threw down the gauntlet this Thursday at Palmerston North’s International Daytona raceway….and initially it was picked up by Left to Right: Vincent (working with Catherine Whitby), Ben, Sahsi-“CaptainCrash”, Susav, Bill, Jim (the Ringer), and Josiah. For now the standings are below, but it should be noted these are not corrected or age or […]
